O ideal seria que todos, ou ao menos a maioria de nossos pacientes, fossem comprometidos com o tratamento. Se fosse assim teríamos mais consultas de prevenção e menos de tratamento, mais cuidar de saúde e menos de doença, isso porque empenhados e engajados. Teríamos também menos faltas e atrasos às consultas, menos cancelamentos, menos inadimplência ou demora nos pagamentos, porque presos por obrigação a um acordo.
O que é um paciente comprometido com o tratamento, então?
Ao receber um paciente, obter um diagnóstico e fazer um plano de tratamento estamos apenas iniciando o relacionamento. Devemos lançar mão da boa comunicação para esclarecer sobre os eventuais problemas e sobre a importância do tratamento e fazer a educação orientada para a promoção de saúde e prevenção. No entanto, uma resposta que indique “ok, entendi que tenho um problema e preciso fazer tratamento” não significa que seu paciente está comprometido. Antes ele precisa agendar as próximas consultas para realizar o tratamento. E, mais importante, precisa comparecer às consultas. Mas, mesmo assim, ele ainda não está comprometido. Ele tem que saber quanto o tratamento vai custar, como pode ser custeado (particular ou convênio), quais as facilidades de pagamento, quais os custos em caso de faltas não justificadas e precisa concordar formalmente com esses fatores e iniciar os pagamentos.
Agora sim o paciente está comprometido. Está comprometido, no sentido de envolvido seriamente ou engajado, porque recebeu a informação correta sobre sua saúde bucal e sobre a importância do tratamento e porque recebeu orientação adequada sobre métodos preventivos e de promoção de saúde. E, está comprometido, por estar preso por obrigação, porque assumiu formalmente seus compromissos financeiros com o profissional.
Nesse momento as duas partes, profissional e paciente, estão comprometidos com o tratamento. Ambos têm interesses em comum. Os dois querem chegar ao melhor final possível. É uma situação ganha-ganha onde todos recebem sua quota de benefícios frente aos seus interesses.
