O Último Grito da Estética é o título da reportagem da Veja São Paulo de 19/02/2016 que discorre sobre as lentes de contato dentárias. Título chamativo para um tratamento chamativo. Pois, então vamos às considerações.
- Odontologia na mídia, a princípio, é bom para a classe odontológica e para os pacientes. Com o atual enfoque sendo melhor para a primeira.
- Tratamentos estéticos também produzem saúde uma vez que o estado psicossocial dos indivíduos é realmente uma questão de saúde.
- Tratamentos restauradores representam uma modalidade importante no leque de opções de tratamentos dentários estéticos. As lentes de contato representam apenas uma menor parte desses procedimentos, porém são muito alardeadas.
- Quando bem indicadas são uma ótima alternativa de tratamento.
- Modelos de negócio odontológico baseados nesse tipo de intervenção são legítimos e têm seu público específico.
- Lentes de contato dentárias são apenas um novo nome para um procedimento conhecido e usado pelos dentistas já de longa data. São as facetas de cerâmica com um novo visual (de mercado, é claro, e não de estética).
- Há muitas vezes opções mais conservativas como clareamento, ortodontia e restaurações de resina composta. Quando os casos de escurecimento, desgastes, fraturas e mal posicionamentos são importantes, as lentes de contato não conseguem resolver. Essas limitações impostas pelo lado conservativo e pela necessidade do procedimento invasivo limitam muitíssimo a utilização das lentes. Normalmente quando o caso é simples as lentes são sobre-tratamento e quando é complexo são sub-tratamento.
- Lentes de contato são procedimentos totalmente irreversíveis. Uma vez utilizadas não podem mais ser removidas sem danos à estrutura dentária.
- Lentes de contato, muito provavelmente, não durarão para sempre. Sempre que houver problemas terão que ser substituídas. Se o paciente é muito novo terá que fazer o procedimento várias vezes no decorrer de sua vida.
- Lentes de contato apresentam alto valor agregado. Esse fato pode levar a uma indicação exagerada do procedimento. Experimente falar em facetas em vez de lentes de contato e veja o preço cair pela metade.
- Eu indico poucas lentes de contato para meus pacientes.
- Prefiro oferecer promoção de saúde e prevenção e guardar os tratamentos restauradores como uma opção reservada a dentes e sorrisos com comprometimentos relevantes.
- Para quem pretende argumentar que não ofereço essa modalidade de tratamento com frequência porque não sou capacitado informo que Odontologia Restauradora Estética é parte de minha formação profissional, inclusive com um título de doutor em Dentística (a especialidade odontológica que aborda esse tipo de intervenção) e por mais de 20 anos venho lecionando sobre esse tema.
- Acredito que a atuação profissional do cirurgião-dentista deveria focar no paciente e não no próprio profissional.
- Odontologia é para cuidar de pessoas e não de dentistas…………. eu acho.
